I am a partner with Portage Environmental consulting with a long history in biological sciences. I have worked as a fisheries biologist for 18 years, holding many titles in that time, including fisheries technician, area fisheries biologist, and senior fisheries biologist. I am very excited to be working as a consultant to support my colleague Jim Castle, founder of Portage Environmental, in assisting clients in achieving their business goals while demonstrating the highest level of respect and consideration for the environment. With nearly two decades of experience as a fisheries biologist, I've developed and used my skills primarily for the Alberta provincial governments in support of species and habitat management, allocation and recovery goals. I’ve been fortunate to work as a provincial species lead for Northern Pike in Alberta, conducted research on the species in pursuit of completing my Master’s degree. I’ve led and supported the development of management and regulatory frameworks, cumulative effects models assessing threats to species recovery and management, developed sampling designs and field projects to assessing lentic and lotic fish communities, developed fish stocking strategies, collected and reared fish for aquaculture, led public and indigenous consultation for discussing regulatory changes, and solved high profile fisheries resource concerns tied to the industrial referral process for oil and gas, electrical transmission, and forestry industries in Alberta. In this time, I've gained invaluable experience reviewing and designing mitigations and protection plans to address these industrial impacts on natural environments while still working towards the shared goal of resource allocation and use. The depth and breadth of knowledge I've gained in these rolls has helped solidify my foundation as a biologist and led me to a point where I want to offer my skills to clients who are in need of such services.
I’m extremely excited about joining Portage Environmental and the good work we can support and deliver. Through close connections with other biologist and technicians across Canada in multiple agencies, togehter with Jim Castle, we have the capacity to achieve your significant environmental milestones. The reason for selecting Portage Environmental is simple, we believe our professional backgrounds are beneficial to Canadians, we believe we can help, and we have a strong desire to do so. Let’s do this together.
